I absolutely love Microsoft PowerToys, primarily for its Fancy Zones functionality, which is almost essential on an Ultra-Wide monitor.

Today I installed the most recent update 0.95.1 and it’s seemingly introduced a feature called Light Switch, which, could be very useful. However, as someone who operates in Dark Mode, regardless of the lighting situation, I found myself battling with something that kept changing my Theme back to “Light Mode”.

It took me 10-15 minutes to realise that I’d just installed a new version of PowerToys and that maybe there’s a new toy in the pack. And sure enough, there is.

Light Switch;

Light Switch toggles themes/system settings based on times of day etc… and annoyingly, it’s enabled by default (it seems).

So, if you run PowerToys, and are battling with your Theme automatically changing. It’s likely this. Have a look.
